IN-HOME BODY, BRAIN, AND BALANCE TRAINING FOR OLDER ADULTS

Improve Strength, Cardiovascular Health, Balance & Coordination

After the age of 30 it is normal to lose 5lbs of muscle each decade. This means by the time we reach age 60 we can end up with only half of our original muscle tissue. Loss of muscle leads to loss of strength, balance, coordination, and significantly reduced metabolism. Fortunately, strength training reverses the loss of muscle!

Improve Brain Function

Cardiovascular exercise increases blood flow to the brain. Strength training grows new neurons in the brain. The risk of developing Alzheimer's is reduced by 45% in individuals that exercise. There are additional benefits for those that combine brain challenges with exercise.

How Much Exercise is Needed?

  • Studies show that strength training only 2 times a week will slow and even reverse the loss of muscle in individuals of all ages.
  • It only takes 10 minutes of cardiovascular exercise each day to make a significant impact on heart health. Longer amounts have even greater benefits!
  • 52 cumulative hours of exercise have been shown to lead to significant improvements in processing speed, executive functioning, and global cognition. This is less than 2 months of regular training!

TogetherWON Focuses on the 3 B's:

  • Body (Heart, Lungs, Muscles, & Bones)
  • Brain (Memory, Attention, Executive Function, & Processing)
  • Balance (Vestibular, Visual, & Somatosensory Systems)
